The “I” in the Lie
There it is, that most self-centered of all words in the English language, plopped right down smack in the middle of one of the most despised words, and it’s only one letter. How sneaky words can be, and so too the people who use them.
When your young daughter or son tells a little white lie, or your boss gives you a much lower than expected performance evaluation where some criticisms are unfounded rest assured they are doing it for themselves, the “I’ in their lives. They’re not lying for the benefit of you. People lie to protect their turf, to boost their image with the public, to inflate their ego. When reality isn’t right, when truth is not serving their needs, they lie to protect the “I”.
Case in point is the current President of the United States. He lies about his position on wars, he lies about how he treats women, he lies about where people were born, he lies about the measure of his wealth, he lies about fraud, he lies about images captured in pictures, he lies about the founder of ISIS, he lies ad nauseam. God almighty the man is a steroid hulk of a lying machine!
The “I” that is President is a sociopath which is “defined as someone who lies incessantly to get their way and does so with little concern for others. A sociopath is often goal-oriented (i.e., lying is focused—it is done to get one’s way). Sociopaths have little regard or respect for the rights and feelings of others. Sociopaths are often charming and charismatic, but they use their talented social skills in manipulative and self-centered ways.” (truthaboutdeception.com 1.25.17)
Bingo! We’ve got one with perhaps the biggest “I” ever know to mankind.
The lies that we’re being fed are more than deceptions they are manifestations of an ego that is fraught with self-absorption. The lies being spun nurture not our great nation but rather are sown to feed the “I” in that man.
Over and out America.
